Moving... [09 Aug 2006|07:25pm]
[ mood | transitory ]

I've started a new journal, so this one will be falling into disuse. Go friend a_basket_case if you're still, somehow, interested in reading what I have to say.

The new one will probably be semi-friends-only, but I don't mind friending or refriending - just comment over there. If you're my friend here and aren't listed over there, I'm of course more than happy to add you again, I'll just need reminding.

I just realized that I never really clarified the status of this journal. It's almost completely friends-only. Comment if you'd like to be added; I never write much of interest, however.

Yes, I'm really going to turn this in. [08 May 2006|08:17pm]
Verona Teens Implicated in Marriage Scandal
Is your child at risk for matrimony?

VERONA – Two local teens were reportedly found married yesterday afternoon in an incident investigators are calling “shocking,” “a wake-up call to parents everywhere,” and “no comment.” The children, who will remain unnamed under this publication’s policy to not report the names of marriage victims, were wed at about 3:50 Monday afternoon by a local friar. Sources show that the couple had first met only the previous night. The father of the bride remarked that the new husband was “a portly gentleman,” but did not seem to approve or even have heard news of the illicit wedding. It is unknown whether the couple, whose families have long held a bitter grudge against one another, will elope or remain to face their traumatized parents. Both children are from upper-class families, dispelling the stereotype that marriage only affects poor teens.

When asked what motivated his dangerous decision, the groom blushed and declined to comment.
A source close to the girl commented that she was not yet fourteen years old, then proceeded to ramble for several minutes about pie crust and llamas before being brutally stabbed by this reporter’s pen.

A recent rise in the national marriage rate has been linked to the increasing prevalence of the Gothic Subculture among Italian teens. The cult can be identified by traits such as black clothing, pale skin and the worship of Satan. Marilyn Manson, a musician popular among adolescents for his frightening appearance and controversial lyrics, is also to blame. It can also be noted that the increase in weddings coincides with a rise in rates of illegal immigration.

Marriage is a danger to even the most responsible teenagers. Experts recommend accompanying children to parties, monitoring behaviour for warning signs (such as early-morning walks in the woods, locking oneself in one’s room or spending a disproportionate amount of time on a balcony), and warning teenagers to avoid the company of those suspected of being church authorities. If you suspect your teen has become Gothic, take all necessary precautions to free them from this dangerous influence. Marriage is a disturbing prospect, but with careful supervision of your teen, it can be avoided.

I finally rediscovered this.

"Welcome to the Psychiatric Hotline.

If you are obsessive-compulsive, please press 1 repeatedly.
If you are codependent , please ask someone to press 2.
If you have multiple personalities, please press 3, 4, 5, and 6.
If you are paranoid delusional, we know who you are and what you want. Just stay on the line so we can trace the call.
If you are schizophrenic, listen carefully and a little voice will tell you which number to press.
If you are manic-depressive, it doesn't matter which number you press. No one will answer."

Happy new year, everyone. I spent mine in Vermont and didn't even bother to stay up - New years, like the Super Bowl, have never mattered much to me.

A curse on BUA for their handwritten-application policy. Augh.

Happy Chanukah and after-Christmas, everyone.

I've been at the Vermont place for the past week with various combinations of family and friends. I must say, I'm glad to be home. The vacation feels a bit wasted thusfar, apart from getting my essay mostly done (just don't let me keep editing it, okay?) and revising that English paper (bleh).

My parents and grandmother, as usual, went a little overboard on the gift front (not that I'm complaining!). I ended up with:
* a clock radio for my iPod (awesome!)
* a case for my acoustic
* gift cards: Hot Topic, iTunes, and PacSun
* two Hemingway books, among others
* CDs: Alkaline Trio's Crimson and MCS's I Am the Movie.
* etc.

I ended up with pretty much everything I asked for, aside from one other CD that would have been hard to find (Dog Eared - Cerveris). Overall it was a pretty good Christmas. The most amusing part was that, since Chanukan was that evening and both Jewish portions of the family assumed the others would bring a menorah, we ended up without one and had to light clementine candles instead.

D.C. - You're a great friend; you have no real
problems of your own, but don't mind offering
your witty brand of advice to help your crew.

And I'll take a west coast winter to remove my splinters... [15 Dec 2005|04:10pm]

Jazz band is going to rock Yule Fest tomorrow, even if I'm not properly mic'd. Heck yes.

It's pretty crazy how much I have to get done over break. An essay for Concord and BUA, revisions on an English paper, lots and lots of guitar, and (with any luck) learning to snowboard. I'm so glad we have a vacation.

In other news, four (and a half) people called me a goth today, simply because I was wearing my awesome new armwarmers and a black shirt. It's not that I actually mind - in fact, if anything, I'm flattered - but it's just weird. I mean, if you've got to classify me, emo would be way closer to the truth. But whatever.
